San Francisco 49ers quarterback Mac Jones had the best game of his brief NFL career on Thursday against the Los Angeles Rams.
But as it turns out, that wasn’t nearly the most stressful ordeal that Jones faced while in LA.
According to a report by Dianna Russini of The Athletic, Jones had a harrowing experience when he witnessed a dead body outside the 49ers team hotel when looking off of the balcony of his room.
Russini reports that the incident occurred the morning of the game when Jones walked out onto the balcony of his Marina Del Rey hotel room.
“That morning at the team hotel in Marina del Rey, Jones told teammates he was on his balcony when he looked out at the water and saw a floating dead body,” she reported. “Someone called the police. As the 49ers loaded buses for the stadium, players watched investigators and even a coroner’s van pull into the marina. On Friday afternoon, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said the incident was still under investigation.”
I guess when you start your day unexpectedly viewing a dead body, nothing that you face from there could possibly be any scarier or more upsetting.
Jones went on to complete 33-of-49 passes for 342 yards and two touchdowns in a 26-23 victory over the Rams later that night. He was filling in for injured starter Brock Purdy, and Jones himself had to play through both injury and cramping in his own right.
But hey, when faced with the idea of the fragility of human life, how bad are cramps, really?
Russini didn’t provide any additional info on the situation, and Jones hasn’t spoken about it. But for most people, that would’ve been more than enough to rattle them before making perhaps the biggest start of their career.
Not Mac Jones, however. Talk about a wild day.
