The Seattle Seahawks didn’t need Sam Darnold to throw the ball at a high volume, but when he was asked to throw it he absolutely tore the New Orleans Saints defense apart.
In Seattle’s 44-13 romp last Sunday, Darnold was 14/18 for 218 yards and 2 touchdowns, taking no sacks and no turnovers. No one came remotely close to touching Darnold’s outstanding efficiency in Week 3. His 154.2 passer rating was the second-best of his career behind his five-touchdown demolition job of the Atlanta Falcons last season. When he pushed the ball more than 10 yards beyond the line of scrimmage, he was damn near perfect.
For what it’s worth, this held up even after the entertaining Jared Goff vs. Lamar Jackson duel on Monday Night Football.
Darnold has been nominated for the FedEx Air and Ground Player of the Week, which is awarded via fan vote. You can pick two players from a group of six as your winners. The other nominees are Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams, Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor, Las Vegas Raiders receiver Tre Tucker, and Minnesota Vikings running back Jordan Mason.
If Darnold wins, a $2,000 donation will be made to local Seattle food bank Food Lifeline, which is part of the Feeding America network.
