With the New Orleans Saints going through mandatory minicamp, one player that fans are looking forward to seeing in their development is quarterback Tyler Shough. As the Saints practice ahead of the 2026 season, Shough would speak on how he has improved as a leader.

Shough, in his rookie season with New Orleans last season, threw for 2,384 yards to go along with 10 touchdowns and six interceptions in 11 games after being taken with the 40th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Having been a part of three schools in his collegiate career (Oregon, Texas Tech, Louisville), Shough said he learned to be a leader when being amongst different teams.

“I’ve been able to learn over time just to be yourself, and in order to be a good leader, you have to serve others, and you have to develop those relationships, and at times I wasn’t in the past, and at times you’re gonna have bad games, you’re gonna have a bad throw,” Shough said, via NOF.

“How do you respond to it? And how do you respond when others have a bad day? And it’s part of it, and being able to experience that through those years in college is everything,” Shough continued. “Zach [Wilson] and I talk about it all the time, being from the same class, and what he’s been able to learn from this point in the league, and we’re both kind of, you know, I think really at peace mentally about our own journey, and how can we can kind of continue to get better.”

At any rate, it remains to be seen if Shough takes a jump in his second season with the Saints.
