This week, the New Orleans Saints will head to Raymond James Stadium to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 14 of the 2025 NFL season. The player to watch for this matchup has come up big the past couple of weeks and should see even more opportunity with Justin Reid expected to miss time with a knee injury: S Terrell Burgess.
After participating in a tryout during rookie minicamp, the Saints signed the 27-year-old to a one-year contract, reuniting him with his former Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator, now New Orleans DC Brandon Staley.
The move has already paid off, as splash free-agent addition Julian Blackmon suffered a season-ending torn labrum in Week 1 against the Arizona Cardinals, and Justin Reid could miss time with a knee injury suffered Sunday against the Miami Dolphins.
Burgess has made significant plays over the past couple of weeks. He recorded a big pass breakup against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 12 to get the Saints defense off the field when they desperately needed it and nearly intercepted Tua Tagovailoa on Sunday in Miami.
Through 11 games in black and gold on 85 defensive snaps, he’s posted an 81.1 overall defensive grade while recording 12 total tackles (10 solo), three pass breakups and one stop.
His veteran presence has been felt since his arrival and will be crucial moving forward given the injuries in the secondary.
