Saints Rookie Minicamp: What to watch for

Saints Rookie Minicamp: What to watch for
Canal Street Chronicles Canal Street Chronicles

This will be the first opportunity to see the newest Saints in action.

Last month, the New Orleans Saints drafted 9 players and signed 11 UDFAs, as well as invited a handful of players for a team tryout, all of whom we will get our first look at during their 2025 rookie minicamp, which begins tomorrow, May 8, and runs through May 11.

This will be our first look at new head coach Kellen Moore’s tutelage and his opportunity to evaluate up close the Saints 2025 NFL Draft picks in OT Kelvin Banks Jr., quarterback Tyler Shough, DT Vernon Broughton, safety Jonas Sanker, LB Danny Stutsman, CB Quincy Riley, RB Devin Neal, TE Moliki Matavao, and DL Fadil Diggs.

However, rookie QB Tyler Shough has already been getting some work in this week at Tulane’s Yulman Field, developing chemistry with his new teammates WR Bub Means and TEs Juwan Johnson and Foster Moreau. Johnson and Shough are already familiar with one another, having been roommates together at Oregon. Some brief footage of Shough throwing passes to Means was released on social media, giving fans a little taste of what to expect in the future.

All eyes will also be on the Saints’ first-round selection, Kelvin Banks Jr., and where he will line up on their offensive line. Banks played at left tackle all 3 years at Texas, but that position was occupied last season by Taliese Fuaga. So, will it be Banks or Fuaga that gets moved to the right?

There are also 11 hopeful UDFA’s to keep an eye on: Punter James Burnip, DT Omari Thomas, CB Dalys Beanum, RB Marcus Yarn, Safety Elliot Davison, DE Jasheen Davis, OL Torricelli Simpkins, LB Tyree Powell, WR Chris Tyree, OL Easton Kilty, and WR Moochie Dixon.

Could one or more of these players be the next Rashid Shaheed and standout enough to earn a starting spot on the Saints roster moving forward?

Be sure to stay tuned to CSC later this week for all the latest details from Saints rookie minicamp.
