What does this say about the team’s thoughts on their RB room?

With nearly $30 million in cap space and potential roster upgrades still available, the New Orleans Saints are in an interesting position. Since the end of the regular season, the team has continued spreading the message that they are ready to compete for the playoffs, and their moves throughout the offseason back that up. In addition, the Saints will always try to target talented veterans on bargain deals, and yesterday, it was revealed that New Orleans had heavy interest in running back free agent Nick Chubb, per Jeremy Fowler.

Ultimately, Nick Chubb chose the contender and was signed by the Houston Texans, per Ian Rapoport.

Even though Nick Chubb did not sign with the Saints, the fact that New Orleans had interest in the veteran running back is noteworthy. The Saints’ running back room is a bit of a wild card. Alvin Kamara is the guaranteed number one starter, but there are question marks with each RB behind him. Head coach Kellen Moore and the offensive staff may want to up their game on this current room and could be looking for potential additions in the free agent market.

This could also be a scenario where the Saints saw available talent to add to this roster, but if this was not the case, New Orleans may go back into the running back market sooner rather than later.
