Back to the loss column
“Spencer Rattler again did a lot of good things, but the Saints couldn’t secure a second straight win because they couldn’t finish drives, which has been a sore spot all season. They went 1-for-2 in the red zone on Sunday to bring their season conversion rate to 8-for-19. Against the Patriots, they settled for four field goals, including one inside the red zone and two just outside of it. That, along with Juwan Johnson losing a critical fumble late, was enough to put the game out of reach. Chris Olave also had a pair of big drops, and the Saints had some ill-timed penalties. They’ve been in every game but one so far, but they’ve also been their own worst enemies in multiple losses. It’s back to the drawing board, with three of the next four games on the road.“
“The more Spencer Rattler continues to play consistently good football, the more the question of “What should the Saints do in the offseason?” can be asked. Sure, the Saints are 1-5 after losing to the Patriots 25-19 in Week 6, but Rattler’s 78.2 overall PFF grade is 12th among quarterbacks, and he continues to show that there’s a dependable quarterback there — even if he lacks the top-end physical attributes. This will be an interesting side-quest for the rest of the season.
“So, about the momentum that the Saints built after winning their first game of 2025 in Week 5 against the New York Giants. Well, that’s gone.
On some level, it can be argued that first-year head coach Kellen Moore deserves a fair amount of credit. Yes, the Saints are a one-win team. But with the exception of a Week 3 meltdown in Seattle, New Orleans has been in every game this season.
That’s saying something, because the Saints just don’t have the talent to hang with good teams this season. The offense was held under 20 points for the fourth time in six games. The defense can only do so much when the offense can’t sustain drives.
It’s going to be a long season in the Big Easy. But that might be the worst thing in the long run.
This is a team that has needed a ground-up rebuild for years. — Davenport”
“Playing teams close might be what they have to play for this season. Spencer Rattler is improving at quarterback.”
“The Saints feel like a stock you should be buying. Outside of one game, there have been no blowouts, few egregious coaching errors, developing younger players, non-embarrassing quarterback play. If Kellen Moore can pull this and the No. 1 pick off somehow, I’d treat that as an unbelievable coup. ”
