Saints power ranking entering Week 6
Canal Street Chronicles Canal Street Chronicles

The losing streak is finally over, and now, the New Orleans Saints can physically not be ranked last in the NFL! Or so I thought….

“This was by no means a clean win, but the Saints gladly accepted their first victory. They deserve credit for fighting back from an early 14-3 hole, blanking the Giants for the final 43 minutes — thanks to five turnovers forced — and scoring 23 unanswered points to finish off the game. There are red-zone issues, kicking questions and the blocking for Spencer Rattler left something to be desired, even against a tough Giants pass rush. But Rattler deserves more praise than he has received for how he’s played this season amid the chaos. He’s turned the ball over only once in five games and has been completing passes at a 70 percent clip since Week 2.“

Pro Football Focus – 32 (=)

“The Saints bounced back from an 11-point deficit to beat the New York Giants, securing their first win of the season in the process. It feels like just rewards for the Saints — who, though they were winless heading into the week, have generally been playing hard, and ran the Bills close a week ago. Sunday featured another strong performance from Spencer Rattler, who posted a 72.6 overall PFF grade in the win.“

Bleacher Report – 28 (+3)

“The New Orleans Saints have played competitively for most of the season. On Sunday, their scrappy nature finally delivered a win.

New Orleans still isn’t likely to make an unexpected run to the playoffs. However, the Saints’ 1-4 start feels a lot more promising than those of some other teams with equal records.

Kellen Moore looks like he might just pan out as a head coach, and Spencer Rattler is starting to play like a fairly solid NFL starter. While it was easy to write off New Orleans as the league’s worst team heading into the regular season, it isn’t.

“Getting the first victory for coach Kellen Moore was big for this team. Spencer Rattler played well in the victory over the Giants, and the defense took the ball away. ”

Sports Illustrated – 27 (+3)

“I am legitimately happy for Spencer Rattler, who, yes, took 11 starts to win his first game but in the process has looked better than 30%-40% of NFL starting quarterbacks. While we could be waiting for the pumpkin turn, Rattler has improved in all major categories over the same sample size from last year and is making powerhouse throws with regularity. ”
