Saints make several more roster moves

Two new additions and one QB released.

Over the entire training camp period for teams, numerous transactions are made depending on injuries, retirements, position battles, and other factors. We have already seen this many times with the New Orleans Saints this offseason, and these moves continue. After the release of OT Josh Ball, the team announced that they signed OT Jonothan Mendoza, and today, the Saints made some more transactions with the release of QB Hunter Dekkers and the signing of P Kai Kroeger, per Nick Underhill.

The signing of an offensive tackle made sense after releasing one (Josh Ball), and the team needed to replenish depth. The surprise move when looking at these transactions is the release of QB Hunter Dekkers. It has been heavily covered that the QB 1 battle has been between Spencer Rattler, Tyler Shough, and Jake Haener. Dekkers has always been on the outside, but many, including myself, believed he would compete for the third-string spot. It was going to always be an uphill battle for Dekkers due to the coaching staff having the ability to see Haener play with every group in training camp. The Saints may now feel comfortable with Haener being that third option on the roster.

The only other move, the signing of punter Kai Kroeger, may be to add some more competition in that position battle, but the Saints already have two great options with James Burnip, and Matthew Hayball.
