With the New Orleans Saints set to kick off the 2025 preseason against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday at SoFi Stadium, one name to watch for significant reps is fourth-year LB Nephi Sewell—who’s been outstanding throughout training camp.

Sewell appeared in just seven games in 2024 after starting the season on the PUP list, recovering from a torn ACL he suffered in Week 17 of the 2023 season against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Primarily a special teamer, he made the most of his defensive opportunity in last year’s season finale, logging a sack, five tackles, and two run stops on 58 defensive snaps.

The 26-year-old has had a strong camp, even seeing time with the first-team defense alongside Pete Werner while Demario Davis took a rest day. He’s picked off multiple passes—including two from rookie QB Tyler Shough—and looks like he’s got his juice back.

Injuries may have stalled his path, but Sewell keeps proving he belongs—and that adversity is no match for his resilience. With momentum on his side, could this be the year it all comes together for Sewell?
