On Wednesday, the New Orleans Saints hit the practice field for Week 2 of OTAs; however, after their day was done, work in the building continued as the team hosted a group of New Orleans Police Department recruits for a training session with their Director of Sports Performance Ted Rath.

Rath’s session lasted a little under 2 hours with the 51 recruits, which consisted of 2 classes that will graduate next month and in October. The future officers were put through a session of strength training and workouts that Rath said compares to what the Saints players go through.

This was the first time the Saints hosted a training event for the NOPD and Rath said the recruits did an amazing job. “Honestly, this was awesome; I didn’t know what to expect. I asked, what kind of shape are they in? These are people that are obviously going to be patrolling our street and protecting us, and they didn’t miss a beat. They went through a legitimate half workout of what our guys go through. Chase Young is doing the same stuff that these guys just did. So, it was pretty awesome to see.”

When I asked if he took it easy on them, Rath said, “No, we don’t do anything easy. We go full in. So, they got it today, but they did a great job and handled it well.”
