Mickey Loomis and members of the coaching staff were in attendance.
It probably comes as no shock that there was a strong New Orleans Saints contingent at the LSU Tigers Pro Day with the NFL Draft quickly approaching. Notably Mickey Loomis was in attendance with other members of the front office but notably, per Jeff Nowak, brand new Saints run game coordinator T.J. Pagnetti was in the trenches with the Tigers.
Like any team in the Southeastern Conference, there’s a plethora of talent on the LSU Tigers but the fact that they had a coach hands-on with the O-Line can narrow down a bit of what they’re looking for. Particularly of note is LSU OT Will Campbell who is projected in the range of the Saints pick at number 9 in most mock drafts. Campbell is a top-end talent even if his arm measurements came in a bit shorter than the typical tackle at 32 5/8 inches. There were some variations in the measurements from the combine to his showcase numbers but if the Saints (or any other team) are going to take him in the top half of the first round, I’m sure they’ll get their own measuring tape out just to be sure. Will is clearly not super concerned and I’m not one to feel like a prospect’s talent is confined by fitting an exact mold that other great players have fit before.
Also, of note for the future draft implications, LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier (who’s dad happens to be the new Saints OC) participated in the Pro Day even though he is not draft eligible until 2026, but someone has to throw the ball to all the draft eligible receivers. This provided an up close and personal look at one of the likely top QB prospects in next year’s draft. Even got the shout out from the official Saints account. With the current QB room likely set for 2025 it would make sense that the Saints brass would be intrigued to get an early look at one of the potential QBs in next year’s NFL Draft if they are in the market for one.
