New York Giants quarterback Jameis Winston grabbed attention when he joined Japanese fans in cleaning up trash after the match between Japan and the Netherlands at Dallas Stadium in the FIFA World Cup.
It is a well-known custom of Japanese fans at sporting events, further demonstrating their discipline and courtesy.
Winston, who was at the match as a special correspondent of Fox Sports, did not hesitate to help. Some, however, viewed his gesture as pretentious or clout-chasing.
New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara, however, came to the defense of Winston.
“LOL, s*** is funny because everybody thinks Jameis was doing this for show, but he really is just a genuinely good dude in real life. Cameras or not,” wrote Kamara on X.

He knows Winston pretty well, as they developed a tight bond when they were teammates on the Saints for four years.
Fans seconded Kamara’s comment, stressing that Wilson deserves praise instead of criticism.

“Real ones know Jameis is the most humble human being ever,” posted @domthepatsfan.
“I personally love him. I find that he is who he is, like it or not, and that’s refreshing in a society of fakes. He’s genuine. And he’s probably going to make everyone belly laugh, and our country needs more happiness,” wrote @CHIEFSROCKER1.
“Anyone who has ever listened to Jameis speak should know immediately this was genuine,” commented @DRAKE23X23.
Winston has become a fan favorite over the years because of his cheerfulness, sense of humor, and modesty. He is not shy to share his faith as well.
He played only 21 games in his four-year stint with the Saints due to various injuries.
