Saints 2026 draft position after Week 12
Canal Street Chronicles Canal Street Chronicles

After yet another loss on the season, the New Orleans Saints missed out on getting a win streak, but their draft position did improve. Going into week 13, the Saints are projected to select at pick 3 in the first round. With that, New Orleans is also set to draft at pick 68 in the third round, and that is where we will focus on for today.

Starting with the first prospect, this is a bit of a potential riser, but it would make sense why the Saints would be interested. WR Malachi Fields, who transferred to Notre Dame after four years at Virginia, has had a great season. He may not be one of the names many are currently talking about, but Fields is one of the best contested catch receivers in the country, is a good route runner, is 6-foot-4, adjusts to throws, has speed, and was a former captain.

With the departures of Brandin Cooks and Rashid Shaheed, the Saints are lacking in the WR room and need to find a #2 to put opposite Chris Olave. Fields has the upside to be that WR, and fill the need of a contested catch threat in the offense. Yes, he is a bit older due to being in college for five years, but his talents are too much to overlook

Sticking with offense, the other prospect I wanted to talk about was Penn State RB Nicholas Singleton. In a surprising move last year, Singleton and his fellow RB Kaytron Allen decided to stay at Penn State and attempt to win a National Championship. Instead, their season went the opposite way, and they are nowhere near the playoffs, but Singleton is still looking great. Singleton has an impressive ability to win with excellent speed/burst, but also makes it extremely difficult for defenders to tackle him due to his strength. He is the perfect dual threat, capable of elevating an offense.

For the Saints, the RB position is an interesting one. Alvin Kamara is nearing the end of his career, Kendre Miller is coming off a devastating injury, and rookie Devin Neal has not shown enough for no other moves to be made. In addition, HC Kellen Moore keeps bringing up the homerun type of play that is missing from the running game, and that is what Singleton is excellent at.
