Bo Nix celebrated as you would expect a quarterback to after reaching a conference championship game. But he’s not going to play in that game, because his season is over.

Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton cut a somber figure while addressing reporters after his team’s 33-30 win over the Buffalo Bills on Saturday.

The Broncos are through to the AFC Championship Game, but it’s come at a massive cost. Payton revealed to a presumably shocked room that Nix sustained a broken ankle during the win and will undergo surgery next week.

The HC said Nix suffered the injury on the penultimate play in overtime.

“We felt it was best to tell everyone now,” he explained.

Payton also noted that backup Jarrett Stidham will start against the winner of the Texans-Patriots game next Sunday.

This is a terrible development for the Broncos and their fanbase. What should have been a celebratory night will likely be subdued.

We wish Bo Nix a speedy recovery.
