Russell Wilson Shows His True Character By Stepping Up As A Leader For New York Giants Teammates

Say what you will about Russell Wilson but true leadership reveals itself when nobody is watching. The backup quarterback for the New York Giants continues to show up for his teammates.

His lucrative salary not to play football probably helps, but still.

Wilson should be remembered as one of the best signal-callers in NFL history and someone who genuinely cares for others. Unfortunately, the last few years of his career will forever taint his legacy.

Jaxson Dart is grateful for his mentors.

I think we all knew that the Wilson experiment was not going to work out for the Giants. We all saw him struggle in Denver. Last year was even worse with the Steelers.

The 36-year-old was benched after just three games with New York and Jaxson Dart took over.

Nobody would’ve blamed Wilson if he decided to hang it up. Nobody would’ve thought twice if he chose to quietly remove himself from any kind of prominent role within the organization. Veteran quarterbacks are not responsible for the growth of a rookie. He does not owe anything to Dart.

However, the first-round pick recently revealed how he is leaning on both Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston.

“I kind of see it as I’ve got two big brothers in the room,” Dart said. “The wisdom they shed off of me has been huge. They’ve done it for a long time, and they’ve succeeded at the highest level. I’m in a very unique situation to have those guys, and we have great relationships off the field, too. So [I’m] really just blessed and grateful to have those guys in the room.”

It does not have to be that way. Winston and Wilson are willing to make it so.

Russell Wilson is leader.

The New York Giants are paying Russell Wilson more than two million dollars this season. He very easily could’ve checked out as soon as he was benched, knowing he was going to get paid either way.

That is not the case! Wilson was the first player to greet his teammates out of the tunnel on Sunday.
