The New York Giants announced that Jameis Winston would start in Week 11 with Jaxson Dart sidelined. The Giants will go with Winston over Russell Wilson against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday. The 10-time Pro Bowler struggled in three starts earlier this season before being replaced by Dart.
Wilson was asked if he hopes to be a starter again in the NFL. “Yeah, definitely want to be able to. And definitely want to have that opportunity. I know what I’m capable of… I’m just looking forward to having the rest of a great day today. And I say that because that’s how I’ve always been. In the midst of amazing moments, I’ve always been about the moment right now. And tough times, right now. And it’s really just the faith part of me,” Wilson said, per SNY Giants Videos.
“My favorite scripture is Matthew 6:33. It’s my life philosophy, I would say. ‘Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added on to you.’ Verse 34 says, ‘Don’t worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow has enough worries in itself,’” Wilson added.
“That really came from when I was in a tough position when I was trying to play football, do I play baseball? My dad was on his deathbed, a lot going on. Didn’t know what to choose. Didn’t know what to do. Had two gifts in my hand, I’ve got all these great things going on, but I also had this tough decision about life and what do I do and this and that,” Wilson explained.
The veteran passer signed a one-year deal with the Giants in March. He opened the 2025 season as the starting quarterback. But after three straight losses, New York turned to first-round draft pick Jaxson Dart.
Wilson has seen sporadic action since losing the QB1 job, filling in under center when Dart has been sidelined. He appeared in New York’s Week 10 collapse against the Chicago Bears. Following the loss, the Giants fired Brian Daboll, promoting Mike Kafka to interim head coach. And Wilson was demoted to third string, as New York gave Winston the nod for Week 11.
