A surprise rumor that popped up earlier today has been debunked by multiple reporters.

Earlier today, Cecil Lammey of Denver Sports dropped what appeared to be a bombshell report. He tweeted out that 4x Super Bowl Champion tight end Rob Gronkowski who has been retired since the end of the 2021 season is considering a return to the NFL. He also stated that Gronkowski loves Denver and quarterback Bo Nix and worked with head coach Sean Payton while at FOX.

He added that sources have told him that Gronk has been working out in Vail this offseason as he wants to be physically ready for another NFL season. Lammey continued by saying the 35-year-old tight end may be better suited to return than some think due to him not playing the past few seasons.

Sources tell me Gronkowski has been working out in Vail this offseason as he wants to physically be ready for another NFL season. High-altitude training in the offseason could help him prepare for the rigors of training camp if a team shows interest. At age 35, and with a few years of rest on his body, Gronkowski may be better suited for a return than some think.

This would be an out of nowhere addition to the Broncos. Gronkowski, who has been an analyst on Fox Sports Sunday Morning pre-game show has not played since the end of the 2021 season and will be turning 36 years old this May. The Broncos have a need at tight end so adding Gronk, even at this stage of his career wouldn’t really hurt and give Nix a big red zone weapon at the very least. It all sounded a little too good to be true, right?

Well, that’s because it wasn’t.

First, KOA’s Benjamin Allbright tweeted, "After talking to multiple people it looks like this Gronk thing is probably a nothing burger.”. Later, he and Ryan Edwards had Denver Broncos general manager George Paton on the show who seemed to downplay the rumor and said he heard it on the way to their interview and joked that “we already signed him”.

That seemed to end this ridiculous rumor but NFL Network’s lead insider Ian Rapoport delivered the final nail in the coffin. He quote tweeted Lammey’s video of this report and simply said: “Nope. Nonsense”.

I was skeptical from the start and why you did not see this report covered on Mile High Report, but since it’s out there, we need to address it. No, Rob Gronkowski isn’t planning a return to the NFL and he isn’t interested in joining the Broncos. It was a false rumor and as always, consider the source when it comes to these sorts of things.

It would have been kind of fun though, if true. In the end, it isn’t and the Broncos search for an answer at tight end continues.
