Two playoff teams from 2024 are being linked to a blockbuster trade for Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson.

Earlier this week, Colts head coach Shane Steichen announced that offseason free agent signing Daniel Jones won the QB1 job over Anthony Richardson, who suddenly faces an uncertain future in Indianapolis.

Injuries limited Richardson to just four games as a rookie in 2023. He played 11 games last season, briefly losing his starting job to veteran Joe Flacco, and finished with a woeful 47.7 completion percentage for eight touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

There’s a rumor going around on X/Twitter that the Los Angeles Rams and Pittsburgh Steelers have interest in Anthony Richardson if he hits the trade block.

Jordan Dajani of CBS Sports listed five teams as possible landing spots for the No. 4 pick of 2023, including the Rams, Steelers, New Orleans Saints, Las Vegas Raiders and Baltimore Ravens.

The Rams certainly make sense as a landing spot for Richardson, given the injury concerns and uncertainty around starter Matthew Stafford. And with Aaron Rodgers indicating that he’ll likely retire after one season with the Pittsburgh Steelers, it makes sense for Mike Tomlin and company to bring in a potential succession plan right away.

Anthony Richardson Needs A Fresh Start

Richardson can only take so much of the blame for what has been an underwhelming career up to this point. The Colts have been a quarterback graveyard since Andrew Luck’s stunning 2019 retirement, with Philip Rivers, Carson Wentz, Matt Ryan, Richardson, Gardner Minshew II and Joe Flacco all failing to provide long-term stability at the position.

It’s also at the point where fans think the Colts have benched Richardson for the sole purpose of tanking to land Arch Manning in the 2026 NFL Draft.

The Colts let Anthony Richardson down, and benching him in favor of one of the league’s worst starting quarterbacks of the last five years is a strong indicator that they’re ready to move on. The sooner they give him a fresh start, the better.
