Rumor: Browns NFL draft plans ruined by Chiefs

Rumors of who the Browns were interested in during the NFL draft continue in training camp

The Cleveland Browns are in Week 2 of their training camp schedule with a lot of questions left unanswered. QB Joe Flacco has taken the lead in the quarterback competition, thanks to QB Kenny Pickett’s injury, but the outcome of that battle is far from decided.

LB Carson Schwesinger, the Browns first pick in the second round of the 2025 NFL draft, will have to step in quicker than expected to a linebacker group in need, while RB Quinshon Judkins, the other second-round pick, remains unsigned due to a domestic violence charge.

Rumors around this year’s NFL draft were all over the place for Cleveland, which held the second overall selection and the first pick in the second round. The offensive line was an assumed target with a number of names in the mix, including OT Josh Simmons from The Ohio State University Buckeyes.

Unfortunately for the Browns plans, the Kansas City Chiefs stole Simmons a pick before they could:

The butterfly effect, if Simmons were available at the top of the second round, could have been staggering. Would Schwesinger be the pick at #35 if he were still there or would Judkins still have been the pick? Would veteran OT Jack Conklin have been released and Dawand Jones left on the right side?

DBN can confirm that GM Andrew Berry was very high on Simmons based on sources throughout the draft process.

Instead, the Chiefs got one of (if not the best) left tackle in the 2025 NFL draft (who fell due to recovering from a knee injury) and Cleveland had to regroup.

What do you think the butterfly effect would have been if Simmons were available and selected with the 33rd pick?
