Family member of Art Rooney II went on the PBKC Podcast and blasted the Pittsburgh Steelers offseason–declaring they won’t compete.

The Pittsburgh Steelers appear to be making every move necessary to get a Super Bowl run with Aaron Rodgers. However, their offseason moves haven’t been without criticism. On Wednesday, Patrick Rooney Jr.–family member of team president Art Rooney II–heavily criticized the Steelers offseason moves on the PBKC Picks Podcast.

Among these moves, Rooney dismissed the notion the Steelers were “all in” when making these. “There’s been this narrative around the Steelers like ‘We’re gonna go all in this year.’ What does that even mean?” Rooney said.

The Steelers notably acquired Jalen Ramsey via trade and Aaron Rodgers after his release from the New York Jets. Rooney doesn’t seem convinced these moves are significant enough to compete with the division.

“Do you think even if you had Aaron Rodgers from 10 years ago that you’re gonna be able to compete with Joe Burrow?” Rooney said of the Steelers’ quarterback acquisition. “And you’re gonna be able to compete with Lamar Jackson? … What in God’s name does it make you think that you’re gonna be able to compete with Baltimore or Cincinnati?”

Rooney didn’t stop there. He then praised Baltimore’s roster. “Baltimore is just a better team … I think they finally realized by kicking the crap out of us,” Rooney said of the Steelers nemesis.

Rooney then delivered the real stinger with his season prediction. “They are gonna steamroll us this year.”

While Rooney makes a point about the Bengals’ lethal offense and strong Ravens team, he forgot one thing: Pittsburgh builds to compete in the division. It’s no coincidence the Steelers routinely finish with three or more division wins regularly.

Perhaps Rooney is right. These moves may not be enough to compete with the top teams in the AFC. Maybe the tide has turned in the Steelers-Ravens rivalry.

Regardless, the Steelers aim to do one thing each season: build a winning team.
