Things could be a lot worse. We could be sitting here on the day after discussing a Pittsburgh Steelers’ loss. While we are instead enjoying a victory over the NFL’s previously top team in Indianapolis, there were several things to still be concerned about and Aaron Rodgers knows it better than all of us.
After his offense put up just 225 total yards, Rodgers was less than satisfied and sounded as such in his post game comments. “We gotta look in the mirror and play better on offense.” He’s absolutely right. The win yesterday brought a lot of good feelings, for myself included, but there are still plenty of things that need to be cleaned up.
Rodgers has forgotten more about football than most of us will ever know and when he sees things like this, people pay attention. The running game Sunday produced 38 yards which was good for less than two yards per carry. He was sacked three times and harassed on several other occasions. Rodgers’ point is this; the offense cannot rely on the defense to come up with six turnovers every week. His unit’s ability to sustain drives is way too sporadic.
Rodgers also mentioned guys not catching balls and he also made sure to suggest he needs to play better as well and he does. There were moments where he missed some wide-open guys and other moments where he could have gotten rid of the ball sooner so it’s good that he’s evaluating himself in this process.
Winning games while still going through learning experiences is something few can experience regularly. Take Roman Wilson and his decision to leap for a first down yesterday. While it put the team in a difficult situation, ultimately the Steelers still won. Therefore, you can go to the young man and create teachable moments without having to assert blame on him for losing.
Ultimately what Rodgers is getting at is that this team isn’t going to get multiple turnovers every week. He understands the defense has to get traditional stops but he also recognizes that the offense needs to do a whole lot more as well. I’m quite certain that Rodgers was pleased with the win yesterday but I also believe he sees many of the concerns that most of us have with the 2025 Steelers as well.
