New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft reacted to Zohran Mamdani’s recent victory in the New York City mayoral election on Thursday, two days after the Democratic candidate’s historic win.
In an interview with FOX News and Outkick, Kraft called the situation “sad.”
“It’s sad to me that a man can get elected in the city of New York, the No. 1 city in America, with a lot of beliefs, and when I heard him come out and speak after he won, I thought he was going to be more of a unifier. I think he spoke out in a way that showed divisiveness,” the 84-year-old said. “And that really hurt me.”
The 34-year-old Mamdani defeated independent candidate and former New York governor Andrew Cuomo and Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa.
“I mean, (Mamdani’s) tapped into something and touched something that people under 30 or 35 who, haven’t really experienced the world, but feel that America’s not living up to certain values,” Kraft said, according to the FOX News report. “We should pay attention to that.”
Mamdani is set to take office on Jan. 1, 2026.
