The Indianapolis Colts are in the unique position of having both the fourth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft and the sixth overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft on their roster and both of them are quarterbacks. The two quarterbacks, Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones, have been battling it out for the Colts’ starting job this pre-season and on Tuesday, the 28-year-old Jones was officially given the nod over the 23-year-old Richardson.

Many fans and pundits found the decision strange since the Indianapolis Colts are coming off an 8-9 season and, despite numerous injuries and an abysmal completion percentage in 2024, Richardson appears to have much more upside than Jones, who was 24–44–1 as a starter over six season with the New York Giants.

Neither quarterback, despite their high draft statuses, has much in the way of a resume. Richardson has completed just 50.6 percent of his passes in 17 games over two seasons and has missed games with a concussion, a shoulder injury, and a back injury. He also infamously took himself out of game saying he “needed a breather.” Jones, on the other hand, has the lowest winning percentage among quarterbacks with at least 50 starts and the lowest touchdown percentage among quarterbacks with at least 1,000 pass attempts since 2019.

Following the announcement of Daniel Jones as the Colts’ starting quarterback, one of the pundits who was left scratching his head was former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III.

“I’m convinced that the Indianapolis Colts are trying to tank for Arch Manning,” Griffin wrote on X (Twitter). In subsequent tweets, Griffin added, “Whether Arch comes out in 2026 or 2027” and “Because the plan at QB doesn’t make sense.”

It certainly would be interesting for Arch Manning to be drafted by the Colts – the same team that his uncle Peyton Manning led for much of his Hall of Fame career. That, however, is not going to be happening in 2026. Right?

Archie Manning recently stated flat-out that his grandson “is not going to” declare for the upcoming NFL Draft. Does he know something the rest of the football world doesn’t? Not according to Arch.

“I don’t know where he got that from,” Arch Manning said when asked about his grandfather’s comment. “He texted me to apologize about that.”

As things currently stand, the only team that really seems to benefit from Daniel Jones starting over Anthony Richardson in Indianapolis is the Minnesota Vikings.

Despite not playing a single down for the Vikings, who picked up Jones after he was let go by the Giants last year, they will get a 2026 compensatory pick because Jones left in free agency. That pick only gets better the more playing time that Jones gets in 2025.

Plus, as one fan fan put it in response to Robert Griffin’s suggestion that the Colts are taking for Arch Manning, “If they were doing that Anthony would be starting.”
