Former New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski is very bullish on the Pittsburgh Steelers this season. Despite having the third-best odds to win the division, Gronk expects the Black and Gold to win the AFC North.
“I believe it,” Gronkowski said on Up & Adams with Kay Adams. “Baltimore is such a good team, but I had to pick a shake-up somewhere in at least one of those divisions out there. I decided with Aaron Rodgers there, he still has a lot left in the tank. I feel like he is kind of underrated a little bit just because of the stint in New York, but if you really look at it, he had great stats. It was just not a winning organization there, and when you go to a winning organization like the Pittsburgh Steelers… I think they are gonna do it.”
The Steelers’ win total for this year is set at 8.5 wins. Gronkowski is betting the over.
“They are going over,” Gronkowski said. “They got Aaron Rodgers. They also went all in as an organization. I have never seen the Pittsburgh Steelers say, ‘Hey, let’s go for it this year and let’s win a Super Bowl.’ Usually, they are always building up for it, you know, signing their own guys. They went out in free agency and made a lot of moves. I am going over 8.5 wins.”
While Gronkowski is high on the Steelers this year, he does not expect them to beat his Pats in Week 3 at Gillette Stadium.
“They’re going about seven [wins],” Rob Gronkowski said of the Patriots’ win total this season on Bussin’ with the Boys in May. “We’ve got the Steelers’ number. The Patriots always take down the Steelers, no matter what.”
In seven career games against the Steelers, Gronkowski had 41 catches for 685 yards (16.7 average) and eight touchdowns. To say the least, he was a major thorn in the Steelers’ side. His most impressive performance against the Steelers came on December 17, 2017, when he caught nine passes for a career-high 168 yards (18.7 average). Gronkowski destroyed Steelers safety Sean Davis throughout the game. That was also the infamous Jesse James game.
The Steelers’ recent history against the Patriots is rather grim. Since 2000, the Patriots are 14-4 against the Black and Gold. They’re also 3-0 in AFC Championship games against the Steelers in that time frame. In addition, the Steelers have won just once in Foxborough since 2000. So Gronk might have a point.
