New England Patriots - NESN.com
The vibes surrounding the New England Patriots are high, and understandably so. A lot has gone right for the team on the field, but on Wednesday, a long-overdue development involving legendary tight end Rob Gronkowski took place off the field.
Last week, Gronkowski revealed that he would be signing a one-day contract with the Patriots so that he could officially retire as a member of the team he broke into the NFL with. The team held a ceremony for the event as a tribute to all Gronkowski accomplished during his time with the Pats.
Known for his boisterous personality, Gronkowski proved that he hasn’t changed much since his playing days in the NFL ended. When team owner Robert Kraft jokingly suggested that the Patriots change Gronkowski’s contract to a two-day contract so that he could play in the team’s Week 11 contest against the New York Jets, he fired back with a quick response.
“What’s the signing bonus?” Gronkowski replied with his typical trademark humor.
Gronkowski hasn’t played in the NFL since 2021, but he finished his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers instead of the Patriots. Now, he will ensure that he is retiring with the team that he won three Super Bowls with.
In recent seasons, folks could joke and say that the Pats’ offense could use Gronkowski on the field still, but that hasn’t been the case this season. New England has cruised to an 8-2 record through 10 games, and it will look to earn its eighth-straight win when it takes on the New York Jets on Thursday Night Football in Week 11.
