The Seattle Seahawks are putting a lot of weight on the shoulders of defensive back Nick Emmanwori in their attempt to win the NFC West over the L.A. Rams again, but training camp has gotten off to a bad start in that regard. Emmanwori was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list by the Seahawks on Monday with an undisclosed injury.
Emmanwori finished second in Defensive Rookie of the Year voting in 2025 and he was instrumental in Seattle’s NFC Championship victory over the Rams.
Emmanwori broke up three passes against Matthew Stafford in the NFC Championship game, including a monumental defense against Puka Nacua.
Generally, Seattle’s defense has not fared well against Stafford, Nacua, and the entire Rams offense. But a defense without Emmanwori would be even worse.
In OTAs, Emmanwori was participating with no restrictions or a known injury, so this reason to be placed on PUP would be based on something new. Emmanwori missed four games at the start of 2025 with an ankle injury. A player who starts camp on PUP can be activated at any time, but if he is not activated by final cuts, is required to miss at least the first four games of the season.
It’s notable information for the Rams-Seahawks rivalry (although the two teams don’t face each other until the end of the season) but also a good reminder that players on the Rams could be going on PUP before the end of this week. Rams camp starts on Saturday.
