The New England Patriots could add another running back to the mix.
New England has been using Rhamondre Stevenson and TreVeyon Henderson as its running back duo to begin the season. However, neither running back has taken control of the job, and with the running game struggling, the Patriots could make a move.
ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler reported on Wednesday that rival execs believe New England is looking to acquire a running back before the Nov. 4 trade deadline.
“Team execs have also pegged the Patriots among teams that could look to add a back in the coming weeks,” Fowler wrote in a piece on Wednesday.
Fowler lists Breece Hall and Jerome Ford as potential running backs who could be on the move ahead of the deadline.
Patriots coach Mike Vrabel, meanwhile, called out the running game following New England’s Week 6 win, as he wanted more consistency.
“We’ll keep working. We’ve had some good runs, we’ve had some pitiful ones, too,” Vrabel said on Monday, via a team-provided transcript. “We just have to make sure that there’s a consistency, that we’re coaching the details, that we’re coaching the demeanor, understand that it’s going to be some dirty runs in there.”
For now, New England will continue with a running back tandem of Stevenson and Henderson when the Patriots go on the road to play the Tennessee Titans on Sunday.
