When you look at the wonkiness involving Jon Gruden and the NFL Draft, including his “kill tapes,” it’s not all that surprising to see him still without a coaching job. He got a surprise of his own when former NFL running back Ricky Williams told him about his unexpected career after football, according to a post on X by Barstool Sports.

“It’s gonna sound crazy, but I’m a professional astrologer,” Williams said. “It’s what I do for a living. If I broke down what I did on a daily basis, it wouldn’t sound that foreign to you.

“The analogy I like to use is: In football, a coach would never imagine going into a season or a game without a playbook, game plan, or scouting report. But when we go through life, we don’t really have that. We’re just trying to figure it out on our own.”

Williams said that after he retired, he met a woman. She talked to him about astrology.

“And I said, ‘This feels like a playbook for life,’ ” Williams said. “And that’s the way I approach it.

“Everything’s on a computer. I meet someone, and I ask for their birth information. Where they were born. The date and the time. I get that information, and I put it into a computer. The computer software spits out a chart of what the sky looked like at the time of their birth.”

Williams, who won the Heisman Trophy at Texas in 1998, had a troubled NFL career. He said he went through “at least 500” drug tests, according to an Associated Press article via ESPN back in 2016.

Williams said he “might have the world record for most times drug tested.”

“In the film, entitled ‘Ricky Williams Takes the High Road,’ Williams also discusses the prevalence of marijuana use in the NFL today, and its potential as a medicinal tool,” according to the article. “Williams retired before the 2004 season after failing a drug test for the third time. He returned to the Dolphins in 2005, then sat out 2006 after a fourth failed drug test.

“He played four more seasons with the Dolphins and finished his career with one season in Baltimore, 2011. Williams has become an entrepreneur in the marijuana industry and campaigns for its legalization throughout the United States.”
