Former NFL offensive lineman Richie Incognito never had a great reputation dating back to his time at Nebraska as a college player. But, what was left of his reputation took a huge hit when he was accused of bullying fellow lineman Jonathan Martin when the two were members of the Miami Dolphins back in 2013.

Those allegations led to public outcry and a lengthy suspension for Incognito. But, on Sunday, Martin admitted the allegations were a hoax, and Incognito sounded off on the reveal on Twitter.

Incognito was suspended for half of a season in 2013 due to the bullying allegations, with accusations of racially-charged language against Martin headlining the accusations. Incognito sat out all of the 2014 season, largely due to the allegations, but returned to the league in 2015 and played through 2021.

On Sunday, Martin admitted it was a hoax.

So, yeah, that changes things. Incognito gave people plenty of legitimate reasons to dislike him over the years. But, it appears that this one was a hoax.

Incognito sounded off on the hoax on Twitter.

He couldn’t cut it in the NFL so he quit and his mom blamed me. Legacy media pushed this narrative long and far. Too bad it was all a lie! They lied to protect his money. He quit… the team had every right to claw back that money. His mom started the bullying narrative with @espnhttps://t.co/ifFFJPG1H7

Martin, a 2012 second-round pick out of Stanford, was out of football for good in 2015, citing injuries and his mental health. While the NFL found some evidence of foul language used by Incognito, according to Martin, he didn’t consider it bullying.

I’m sure that Incognito will be doing some press in the next few days to talk about this situation.
