Jonathan Martin said he never felt bullied by Richie Incognito in 2013.
That was the revelation this week, nearly 12 years after the former Miami Dolphins offensive lineman and Incognito dominated NFL headlines with a bullying scandal.
The re-emergence of that story certainly reopened some old wounds.
During the 2013 season, Martin took a leave of absence from the Dolphins allegedly due to bullying and teasing from fellow offensive linemen. Reports indicated at the time that the behavior directed at Martim went well beyond the usual and crossed a line with threats and racist remarks.
Former Dolphins offensive lineman Richie Incognito was more than excited about his name being cleared, so he went on a tweet spree to call out any and everybody who had something to say about him.
His most vicious tweet was directed at Martin as he posted: “He couldn’t cut it in the NFL, so he quit, and his mom blamed me. Legacy media pushed this narrative long and far,” Incognito tweeted.
He couldn’t cut it in the NFL so he quit and his mom blamed me. Legacy media pushed this narrative long and far. Too bad it was all a lie! They lied to protect his money. He quit… the team had every right to claw back that money. His mom started the bullying narrative with @espn… https://t.co/ifFFJPG1H7

“Too bad it was all a lie! They lied to protect his money. He quit… the team had every right to claw back that money. His mom started the bullying narrative with @espn @AdamSchefter so that @MiamiDolphins wouldn’t go after his signing bonus!”
Former NFL player Richie Incognito has some old wounds opened back up after his former teammate, Jonathan Martin, revealed that he lied about allegations of bullying made against Incognito more than a decade ago.
Incognito had a lot to say about Adam Schefter on social media.
The allegations and reports would force Incognito to take a two-year hiatus from playing in the NFL before signing with the Buffalos Bills ahead of the 2015 season.
Schefter took to X on Sunday and posted a screenshot from the ESPN article featuring that quote from Martin, calling it a “notable excerpt” from the story.
Richie Incognito was enraged as he responded, “Notable excerpt?! You tried to ruin my life over this bullsh– he wrote. Later after one commentor suggested Schefter should make an apology, Icognito responded, “F— an apology! I’m going to expose them all. Been waiting a long time for the truth to come out.”
