Rhamondre Stevenson is about to enter his fourth season as the lead back for the New England Patriots. Since being drafted by the Patriots in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft, Stevenson has been a reliable workhorse for the Patriots, but the team added some nice competition behind the veteran this offseason.

In the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft, the Patriots drafted TreVeyon Henderson out of Ohio State. Henderson starred for the Buckeyes and was a key contributor on a team that won the championship last season. Henderson has impressed this offseason and could be due for a large role during his rookie campaign.

On Monday, MassLive’s Mark Daniels mentioned that Henderson “looked good” at practice and caught five catches with four touchdowns in red-zone drills. Stevenson also noticed the rookie, and offered some advice for opposing linebackers.

“They better be able to move, ’cause he’s fast,” Stevenson said Monday, per MassLive’s Karen Guregian.

That’s definitely sound advice from Stevenson. Henderson was a force in 2024, rushing for 1,016 yards and 10 touchdowns, while averaging a Big-10-leading 7.1 yards per carry. The running back also caught 27 passes for 284 yards and one touchdown during his final collegiate season, showing his ability to help out in both phases.

For 2025, Henderson is competing with veteran Antonio Gibson for the RB2 role. However, Henderson has done more at camp than Gibson and is much younger. These factors could lead to Henderson beginning the season as RB2 and ending the season splitting carries with Stevenson.

Stevenson is under contract through 2028 after signing an extension, so he’s obviously sticking around for a while. Henderson could definitely take from his workload though, and the Patriots are surely hoping to have one of the most electric running back duos in the league.
