Reviewing the Seahawks 2024 rookie predictions - Part 1
Field Gulls Field Gulls

Well, how close did I come to predicting the Seahawks 2024 rookie statistics?

As I did last year, it’s time to go back and review how well I did in predicting the rookie seasons for the 2024 draft class for our Seattle Seahawks. There will be links to the original articles along with an excerpt of the actual predictions.

I’ll take on the first four picks this week, with the remainder to come next week.

Byron Murphy

Excerpt from prediction article:

Since Murphy will be part of a rotation, however, he might not stuff the stat sheets as a rookie. The three guys he’s been most compared to – Grady Jarrett, Geno Atkins, and Justin Madubuike – all had slow starts to their careers with 1.0, 3.0, and 1.0 sacks respectively in their rookie seasons. I think Macdonald will get creative and give Murphy plenty of chances to make plays which he will take advantage of to the tune of 35 tackles, 3.0 sacks, and 6 TFL.

Even if Murphy doesn’t always make the play himself, he’ll be a consistent factor in the backfield and someone the opposing offenses will have to take into account. The fact that he’ll still split time with Leonard Williams, Jarran Reed, and others will keep the numbers down. It will still be a solid rookie season and he’ll show glimpses of why he was the second defensive player off the board.

Side note, I doubt the Seahawks will let him line up on offense like they did at Texas, but I sure hope so. Can we please let him have a big man TD??

Verdict?

I was pretty much spot on for the number of tackles. As for the sacks and TFL’s? I guess I was a little overzealous with my predictions. Murphy missed some time with injury and had a sack called back by penalty – which also may have kept the Seahawks out of the playoffs. He flashed plenty of talent and took on his fair share of double teams. I think the future is still very bright for him and he will continue to progress as he adds to his pass rush repertoire.

Seattle did finally line Murphy up on offense towards the end of the season.

Still waiting for that big man TD though!

Christian Haynes

Excerpt from prediction article:

Seattle’s starting guards last season were essentially some combination of Damien Lewis, Phil Haynes (no relation to Christian), and 2023 rookie Anthony Bradford – with starting center Evan Brown also receiving some guard snaps to cover injuries. Of those four players, only Bradford remains. The Seahawks brought in competition at the guard spots in the form of *checks notes* Tremayne Anchrum and Laken Tomlinson.

Haynes played exclusively at right guard in college and was extremely durable, starting 49 consecutive games for the Huskies. With Anthony Bradford’s inconsistency last season, there should...
