Report: Trey Hendrickson to report to camp without new deal in place
Cincy Jungle Cincy Jungle

What glorious news!

According to a report from NFL insider Dianna Russini, Cincinnati Bengals edge rusher Trey Hendrickson, who has been in a lasting contract dispute and has not reported with his teammates, is on his way back to the Queen City from his home in Jacksonville to report to camp, even though there is currently no deal in place.

This comes less than a week since the team finally got their first-round pick, edge rusher Shemar Stewart, under contract. He practiced with the team for the first time on Sunday.

Hopefully this is a sign that Hendrickson and the Bengals’ front office are close to a deal. If they aren’t any closer, it’s at least a step in the right direction. Having Hendrickson back on the field will be huge for the defense, especially considering he’s the NFL’s defending sack leader and he’s on a roster devoid of a ton of experience at the position, partially thanks to Sam Hubbard’s retirement.

The Bengals will take the field on Wednesday and Thursday at 10 AM this week, and both practices are open to the public. Hopefully Hendrickson is out on the field with everyone else, and gets a healthy dose of love from the fans that are happy he’s back. If he’s not, hopefully it means he and his agent are discussing things face to face with the Brown/Blackburn family.

Either way, there is no way to put a negative spin on this news. Today is a good day,
