PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers suffered a left wrist injury late in the second quarter of Sunday’s win over the Cincinnati Bengals and never returned. Now it seems his injury will keep him sidelined for at least the near future, despite a report by Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk that he wanted to return to the game.
“I’m told he actually tried to come back into the game,” Florio said. “They didn’t let him play. They’re going to have imaging examinations tomorrow to determine the extent of the injury.”
According to ESPN insider Adam Schefter, Rodgers suffered a slight break in his left wrist and will underdgo further testing Monday to determine the full extent of the injury and how long he’ll be sidelined.
Luckily, the initial belief is that Rodgers’ injury won’t keep him sidelined long term, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network also revealed that Rodgers has indicated to people close to him that he’ll be back soon.
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said he talked with Rodgers after the game and he was excited about the win but didn’t say anything about his wrist.
“He was excited about the win. I just talked to him, but that’s all we talked about. We didn’t talk about his injury. We talked about the significance of the win,” Tomlin said.
Rodgers left the locker room with his left hand in his hoodie pocket, according to Steelers Now’s Brendan Howe.
NBC also captured Rodgers with his left hand with a black wrap or brace in his hoodie pocket congratulating teammates as they came into the locker room.

The Bengals were called for roughing the passer twice on the Steelers’ final drive of the first half, a march that ended with a Chris Boswell field goal, giving his side a 10-6 advantage.
Bengals defensive end Joseph Ossai knocked Rodgers to the ground after a first-and-10 from Cincinnati’s 19-yard line, four plays before Boswell’s 25-yard make. Fellow defensive end Myles Murphy hit Rodgers low earlier that series.
Mason Rudolph led the Steelers offense in the second half, completing 12 of 16 passes (75.%) for 127 yards, one touchdown, no interceptions, and a passer rating of 118.5.
Rodgers, 41, hadn’t missed an offensive snap for the Steelers this season up until that point. The 21st-year veteran entered the day having passed for 1,853 yards, 18 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Before exiting, he’d gone 9 of 15 for 116 yards and an 11-yard touchdown pass to Kenneth Gainwell in the first quarter.
The Steelers play the Bears in Chicago on Sunday.
