The Steelers are linked to yet another free agent wide receiver.

Late Tuesday, KPRC2 Houston NFL insider Aaron Wilson reported that the Steelers or San Francisco 49ers are “next up” for wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling, who was released by the Seattle Seahawks during roster cutdowns earlier in the day.

While Wilson’s post isn’t worded in the clearest way, it appears that the free agent pass catcher is deciding between the two teams for his next NFL stop.

However, Wilson, who often reports NFL tryouts, could just be reporting on potential visits.

A fifth-round draft pick in 2018, Valdes-Scantling started his career with Aaron Rodgers’ Green Bay Packers. The 6’4, 206-pound receiver ran a 4.37-second 40-yard dash coming out of college.

Over his seven years in the NFL, Valdes-Scantling has 3,566 receiving yards and 20 receiving touchdowns. He won two Super Bowls during his stint with the Chiefs from 2022-23. In 2024, he had 19 catches for 411 yards and four touchdowns, spending time with the Bills and Saints.

During the 2025 offseason, Valdes-Scantling signed a one-year, $5.5 million contract with the Seahawks. However, he didn’t make the team’s final roster. Now, he’s a free agent possibility for teams such as the Steelers, who have shown interest in outside names at wide receiver this year.
