Correspondent for The Pat McAfee Show Mark Kaboly revealed on 93.7 The Fan that the Pittsburgh Steelers and free-agent wide receiver Tyler Boyd have talked this offseason.
Kaboly added that he was not sure if a formal offer was made during those conversations. He said the money that Boyd has been offered around the league this offseason has not to been his liking and is waiting for a better offer.
Speaking after his eighth annual youth football camp on Saturday, held at the newly renamed Tyler Boyd Stadium in Clairton, Boyd made it clear a return to Pittsburgh would mean more than just football.
“Absolutely,” Boyd said. “You know, all my family is here. I’d be able to have the majority of them be able to support me.”
A reunion makes sense on several levels. The 30-year-old wideout is still capable of contributing. In 2024, he hauled in 39 passes for 390 yards with the Tennessee Titans. Before that, he spent eight standout seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals, where he posted multiple 1,000 yard campaigns and caught 513 passes, fifth most in franchise history.
Boyd also has a close relationship with Mike Tomlin.
“I’m real cool with Tomlin,” Boyd said. “He’s always been a good person. We always wrapped it up. When I was at Pitt, we had a good relationship.”
Boyd and the Steelers reportedly had contact talks last offseason, before he signed a one-year deal with the Titans.
ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler thinks Gabe Davis good be another option at receiver for the Steelers. Keenan Allen and Amari Cooper also still free agents.
“Free agent WR Gabe Davis still an option for Steelers on offense, too,” Fowler posted on X. “He really enjoyed his visit there. Though he could take his time to sign, possibly closer to training camp.”
Pittsburgh hosted Davis on a free agent visit earlier this month, but he left without a contract. Many believe that was due to his health, though.
Davis was released by the Jacksonville Jaguars with a failed physical designation in May. He spent most of the 2024 season dealing with a knee injury that eventually caused him to have surgery and miss the final seven games of the season.
