The Pittsburgh Steelers have brought in some home-grown talent to help the defense get back on track in 2025—signing former Pitt Panthers LB and Dallas Cowboys linebackers coach Scott McCurley as the Black and Gold’s new inside linebackers coach.

McCurley is set to replace former Steelers inside linebackers coach Aaron Curry, who signed with the New York Jets on January 31, 2025.

McCurley was born and raised in Pennsylvania and attended the University of Pittsburgh as a linebacker from 1999 to 2002 before graduating and becoming a defensive graduate assistant.

The former Pitt Panther joined the Packers in 2006 as a coaching administrator intern. He spent 13 seasons with the organization, quickly moving up the ranks to coaching administrator, defensive quality control coach, assistant linebackers coach, and defensive assistant in 2018.

After a year off in 2019, McCurley joined the Dallas Cowboys as the team’s linebackers coach in 2020.

Steelers are hiring New Castle native Scott McCurley as their inside linebackers coach, replacing Aaron Curry. McCurley, who played football at Pitt, spent the past five seasons as LB coach for the Dallas Cowboys.

McCurley will be welcomed back to the great state of PA with open arms by the Pittsburgh Steelers, as he takes on the task of coaching a fantastic duo of inside linebackers—Patrick Queen and Payton Wilson.
