Report: Seahawks will be facing Marquez Valdes-Scantling in just a few weeks
Field Gulls Field Gulls

The Marquez Valdes-Scantling revenge game is already brewing.

Having just been released by the Seattle Seahawks on Tuesday’s roster cutdown day, the two-time Super Bowl champion wide receiver already has his options lined up. NFL insider Aaron Wilson reported that MVS intends to sign with either the San Francisco 49ers or Pittsburgh Steelers.

As a vested veteran, MVS can sign anywhere as an immediate unrestricted free agent as opposed to going through waivers.

The 49ers and Steelers, of course, are the Seahawks’ first two opponents for the 2025 regular season. It’s no surprise both teams are looking for receiver help given their respective positions.

San Francisco is decimated at wide receiver, with Brandon Aiyuk still recovering from last year’s ACL and MCL tear, Demarcus Robinson suspended for three games, Jacob Cowing out with a hamstring injury, and Jauan Jennings’ future uncertain for injury and contract reasons. Pittsburgh has been searching for receivers after trading away George Pickens (but not before acquiring DK Metcalf, of course), and just released veteran Robert Woods. Their other wideouts are Roman Wilson, Ben Skowronek, Scotty Miller, and Calvin Austin.

Barring something unexpected (or MVS signing with someone else), we’ll be seeing Valdez-Scantling on the field for a Seahawks game next month… just in another uniform.
