New England Patriots cornerback Marcellas Dial Jr. was carted off the field during the team’s training camp session on Monday with what was reported as a “potentially significant” injury.
It turns out that Dial’s situation is a worst-case scenario.
“Filed to ESPN: Patriots CB Marcellas Dial Jr., who was carted off the field Monday, tore his ACL, per league sources,” ESPN’s Mike Reiss posted on Bluesky on Tuesday.
The Patriots selected the 24-year-old in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft and he appeared in all 17 games last season, making one start. Dial posted 12 tackles and one forced fumble while playing just 60 defensive snaps but appeared on the field for 364 special teams snaps as well.
New England is already down multiple cornerbacks, with offseason signing Carlton Davis III and second team All-Pro Christian Gonzalez dealing with injuries too.
