The New England Patriots were already without injured cornerbacks Carlton Davis III and Christian Gonzalez during Monday’s training camp session.

Then during the opening practice of the week, fellow cornerback Marcellas Dial Jr. went down with what Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald described as a “potentially significant” injury.

“#Patriots CB Marcellas Dial is being carted off the field with what appears to be a potentially significant left leg/knee injury,” Callahan posted on Bluesky. “He went down during team periods and laid on the field receiving medical attention for 1-2 minutes.”

The Boston Globe’s Christoper Price and ESPN’s Mike Reiss also reported on the situation.

“CB Marcellas Dial went down. Taken off the field on the back of a golf cart. Looked like a left leg injury,” Price wrote on Bluesky.

According to a report by Patriots on SI’s Ethan Hurwitz, the 2024 sixth-round pick was “quickly grabbing at his left knee” following the injury and “couldn’t put any pressure on his leg and appeared to be in severe pain.”

Dial played in all 17 games last season, making one start, and recorded 12 tackles and one forced fumble. He played just 60 defensive snaps but appeared on the field for 364 special teams snaps as well.
