The “Tush Push,” “Brotherly Shove,” or whatever else you call the Philadelphia Eagles’ version of the quarterback sneak, is not loved outside of Philly.

The play, which is virtually unstoppable in short-yardage situations, gives the reigning Super Bowl champions an edge over the rest of the NFL, as it leaves them with more margin for error than every other team.

The rest of the league has been trying to figure out how to stop it for three seasons and it appears that they’ve conceded that the only way to effectively challenge the “Tush Push” is to have it banned.

According to NFL.com’s Judy Battista, one team has submitted an official proposal to have the play banned, but they haven’t been identified.

“There is a proposal from an unnamed team to ban the Tush Push, Troy Vincent said,” Battista reported on Monday. “We’ll see where it goes.”

The “Tush Push” Might Not Survive The Next Round of Offseason Meetings

While the Eagles’ sneak is hated around the NFL because it’s nearly impossible to stop, there are also concerns about player safety.

Even Jason Kelce, who was at the center of it all (literally) during the final two seasons of his career, recently admitted he hated it, given the toll it took on his body.

The former Eagles offensive lineman retired after the 2023 season, and there were fears that the play would not be as effective, but Philly hardly missed the center in that regard and went all the way without him last season.

Pressure is now mounting on the NFL to ban the “Tush Push” following the team’s successful campaign in 2024. But we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.

Pleas have fallen on deaf ears in previous years; however, Commissioner Roger Goodell did indicate that he was waiting to hear how people felt about it in upcoming meetings after opting to keep the play around after calls to outlaw it in 2023.
