From Steelers Now:
Fox NFL insider Jordan Schultz revealed on Wednesday that the Green Bay Packers have a serious interest in trading for Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens.
“It’s just not in their DNA to spend that much on two wideouts,” an unnamed AFC general manger told Schultz. “Pickens is more available than people think. Green Bay’s been serious, and they’re not the only ones.”
Schultz also noted that the Steelers have taken and made calls about trading Pickens. So despite Steelers general manager Omar Khan squashing the trade rumors, it appears the former Georgia product is in fact on the trade block.
“George Pickens is one intriguing trade name to watch,” Schultz wrote. “Pittsburgh has taken and made calls on the talented WR, who’s now extension-eligible. After paying Metcalf, league sources are skeptical the Steelers will pay two receivers.”
Adam Rank of NFL.com said in February that Green Bay would be an ideal trade partner for the Steelers. The Packers are a team that needs to bolster their wide receiver corps and give quarterback Jordan Love another dynamic weapon.
“Here’s another young receiver who could fetch a nice price from a trading partner seeking a true No. 1 pass-catching option. (Right, Green Bay?) Pickens has been inconsistent, but the Steelers have also trotted out a wide assortment of quarterbacks during his first three seasons in the NFL. Having him as the top target for, say, Jordan Love would be huge for Matt LaFleur’s Packers offense,” Rank wrote. “The Steelers also get a chance to avoid an uncomfortable conversation with Pickens when the 2022 second-round pick’s contract is up at the end of the 2025 season. And let’s be completely honest, the Steelers have done a great job over the last few decades of moving on from receivers before issues arise, financial or otherwise.”
The Dallas Cowboys could be another team in the sweepstakes for Pickens. Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones hinted on Tuesday that Dallas could make some noise before or during the draft on Thursday night.
“We’re looking at two things that could happen before or after the draft,” Jones said during his pre-draft press conference, via Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “Two pretty substantive trades. Been working on today.”
Yahoo Sports NFL insider Charles Robinson believes the Cowboys could have their eyes set on Pickens.
“The Cowboys are hunting wide receivers and they really want to get a wide receiver at 12,” Robinson told Andrew Fillipponi and Chris Mueller on 93.7 The Fan. “They want an elite-level number two. There is not necessarily an elite-level number two (in the Draft). Right now, since (Dallas owner) Jerry Jones is talking about trades, teams are wondering if that is George Pickens.”
Robinson believes the return for the Steelers would be a second day draft pick, meaning a second, or more likely, Dallas’ third-round pick. Robinson told the PM Team that Pickens’ skillset is exactly what the Cowboys want to add. He would be an...
