9News got confirmation from the Lone Tree mayor’s office that city and Broncos have held held multiple meetings.
Over the last month, there’s been ample discussion of a new Denver Broncos stadium.
The current lease on Empower Field at Mile High expires after the 2030 season, and the franchise has repeatedly said that all options are on the table.
As Broncos president Demani Leech said in a February interview, “... we feel pretty soon we need to figure out what we’re doing.”
Specifically, the focus of coverage has been on the Burnham Yard area, which could be redeveloped into the latest state-of-the-art stadium in the NFL, not to mention a city within a city for restaurants and entertainment as a multi-use neighborhood. On top of the stadium, this seems to be the desire for NFL owners when discussing a stadium. Based on a location near downtown Denver, the historic Burnham Yard district makes sense.
Now, Mike Klis and 9News are throwing Lone Tree back into the mix.
On Friday, Klis reported that Lone Tree and the mayor’s office acknowledged the Broncos’ interest in the city as a site for a stadium. The two sides have had multiple discussions at the Broncos headquarters and in Lone Tree, according to 9News.
The Lone Tree mayor’s office sent a full statement to 9News, but here’s a part of that comment:
“While no formal proposal is before the city at this time, we remain committed to thoughtful, community-focused development and welcome conversations that could enhance the unique character and economic vitality of Lone Tree.”
Since the Super Bowl in early February, the topic of a Broncos stadium has gained steam. The focus has been on three areas:
Of those options, the Burnham Yard area has had a lot of smoke. The Broncos have purchased $150 million of land and have had multiple discussions with city officials and Denver Water about purchasing more land.
Now comes this new report from 9News.
As 9News reported in early January, 9NEWS Sports has learned Broncos executives and ownership have considered Lone Tree—including having conversations with city officials in recent months—as a possible location for a new stadium.
Given the team headquarters’ location in Dove Valley, a Lone Tree stadium would be just miles away, so that is a definite possibility. You also have numerous ways to get to the stadium, whether driving yourself or using public transportation. There are I-25, I-225, C, and E470, plus public transport with Light Rail lines and bus routes. For fans in Northern Colorado, it would be a little longer and tougher to get to a Lone Tree Stadium location.
