Various reports confirmed that free agent wide receiver Kendrick Bourne was visiting the San Francisco 49ers on Monday. The plan was for Bourne to speak with the Niners on Monday and travel to D.C. to visit the Washington Commanders later in the week.

According to his Instagram, Bourne left the Bay Area without a deal:

We can put two and two together and conclude that Bourne left the 49ers’ facilities without striking a deal with the team. Why would Bourne want to see if Washington has a better offer? Do we really think he’s going on some recruiting tour when Week 1 is less than a week away? If so, it’d be surprising.

Perhaps the 49ers couldn’t guarantee Bourne what he wanted. After all, Jauan Jennings returned to practice on Monday, as did Russell Gage.

There are also no guarantees that Bourne looked like the same receiver who the 49ers rostered a few years ago during his workout, physical, or whatever took place on Monday. Bourne suffered a foot injury on August 1 that sidelined him for all of the New England Patriots’ training camp. He missed a part of the 2024 season after recovering from a torn ACL in October 2023. A pair of lower-body injuries could’ve taken a toll on Bourne.

We’ll find out if Bourne ends up signing with the Commanders or finds his way back to the Bay Area.
