The Jets may need some help at right tackle next season

One of the bright spots in a pretty dark New York Jets football season was the play of the offensive line. What was once a major liability was actually quite competent and showed signs of long-term promise.

Part of that turnaround was due to the play of right tackle Morgan Moses, who helped stabilize what was once a high variance, injury prone spot for the team. Moses is currently slated to become a free agent, and according to Connor Hughes of SNY, it appears unlikely that Moses will be back in 2025. Specifically, buried in a larger article about whether the Jets should trade up for a quarterback, Hughes wrote:

This team still needs a starting cornerback (DJ Reed isn’t expected to return), defensive tackle, middle linebacker (C.J. Mosley’s future uncertain and Jamien Sherwood is a free agent), wide receiver 2 and 3 (the Jets are expected to release Davante Adams and Allen Lazard), right tackle (Morgan Moses isn’t expected to return), tight end (Tyler Conklin is a free agent), and two safeties.

While the other news was expected, the Morgan news is somewhat of a surprise. It’s possible that Moses is simply ready to retire given that he is heading into his age 34 season and spent considerable time this season hampered by injuries. He previously considered retirement back in 2020. Regardless, this situation and the Jets long-term plan at right tackle are likely worth monitoring in the coming weeks.
