The New York Jets named Aaron Glenn as their new head coach on Wednesday afternoon, and a former Pittsburgh Steelers coach could be joining his staff. Jordan Schultz of FOX Sports reports that Glenn is considering hiring Todd Haley to join his staff in some capacity.
“While it’s unclear exactly what role Todd Haley would have with the Jets, sources say Aaron Glenn and him have had very positive dialogue about Haley joining Glenn’s staff in New York. Glenn feels it’s important to have veteran, experienced offensive minds in the building,” Schultz wrote on X.
Haley was the Steelers offensive coordinator from 2012-2017. Under Haley, the Steelers had a top-10 ranked offenses in every year that he was the OC. Before his tenure with the Steelers, he was the head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs from 2009-11.
Haley, the son of former Steelers front-office executive Dick Haley, got his start in the NFL as a scouting assistant for the Jets from 1995-1996. He then got promoted to wide receivers coach from 1997-2000. Glenn, 52, played for the Jets from 1994-2001, so he has a past relationship with Haley.
Glenn worked for the Jets as a scout from 2012-13, so it’s a natural homecoming. Perhaps Haley will make his return to the NFL and Jets in 2025. Haley hasn’t coached in the NFL since 2018, when he was the Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator. Since then, he served as the offensive coordinator at Riverview High School in Sarasota, Florida (2020-2021), head coach of the Tamp Bay Bandits of the USFL (2022) and the head coach of the Memphis Showboats (2023) of the UFL.
The New England Patriots made the first hire of the 2025 cycle last Sunday, signing former Steelers linebacker and Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel to replace Jerod Mayo. The Bears then hired highly touted Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson.
The Steelers play the Patriots, Bears and Jets in 2025. The Steelers meeting against the Jets will be at MetLife Stadium.
