The Dallas Cowboys have a history of dragging out contract negotiations with their biggest stars and then making them the highest-paid NFL players by a significant margin. History could repeat itself based on projections inside the league for the Micah Parsons contract extension.
NFL reporter James Palmer said during a Bleacher Report live stream that sources around the league believe the long-term extension for Parsons could land in the ballpark of $43 to $45 million per year.

Parsons isn’t sitting out training camp, but recent comments by team owner Jerry Jones have stirred some controversy. Jones took a shot at Parsons’ agent and incorrectly stated the number of games the All-Pro edge rusher missed in 2024.
Despite the public tension, everyone around the league expects a new deal to be signed this year. When finalized, the contract is expected to shatter the previous records for average annual value and total guarantees at the edge rusher position.

Earlier this offseason, the Cleveland Browns made Myles Garrett the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history with a multi-year extension carrying a $40 million average annual value. Then, the Pittsburgh Steelers signed T.J. Watt to a record-breaking extension at $41 million per year in average annual value, with $108 million fully guaranteed.
If the projections for Parsons’ extension hold true, he’ll surpass Watt’s deal by at least $2 million per season. This new contract would align with what Dallas did with Dak Prescott last year, whose $60 million average annual value exceeded the previous quarterback record by $5 million.
