Kellen Moore might not be the only member of Philadelphia’s coaching staff heading to New Orleans.
The New Orleans Saints are interviewing Philadelphia Eagles defensive passing game coordinator/defensive backs coach Christian Parker for their defensive coordinator opening on Kellen Moore’s coaching staff, according to a report from NFL insider Albert Breer.
Parker joined the Eagles last year. He previously worked on Vic Fangio’s Denver Broncos coaching staff during the 2021 season.
Parker has been viewed as a rising assistant. He reportedly interviewed for two defensive coordinator openings last offseason before landing in Philly.
Parker only strengthened his resume in 2024 as part of the Eagles’ top-ranked, Super Bowl-winning defense. Rookie cornerbacks Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean especially thrived under his tutelage.
The Eagles would certainly prefer to retain Parker.
And it’s possible that they will.
The Saints are also reportedly interviewing San Francisco 49ers assistant head coach/defense Brandon Staley for their DC job. Moore served as the Los Angeles Chargers’ offensive coordinator on Staley’s coaching staff in 2023.
Minnesota Vikings defensive passing game coordinator/defensive backs coach Daronte Jones is reportedly interviewing for the Saints’ DC opening as well.
But if Parker ends up being the Saints’ choice, the Eagles will need a new DBs coach. The internal route could involve cornerbacks coach Roy Anderson or safeties coach Joe Kasper receiving a promotion. If the Eagles make an external hire, perhaps Ed Donatell could be in the mix. He has a lot of DB coach experience and he overlapped with Fangio on multiple teams from 2011-2021.
