Teams interested in trading for San Francisco 49ers star wide receiver Deebo Samuel can reportedly get the 2021 All-Pro at a bargain price.
Before Super Bowl 59, it was reported that the 49ers gave Deebo Samuel and his agent permission to seek a trade. The 29-year-old has one season remaining on the three-year extension he signed in 2022.
Jose Luis Sanchez III of San Francisco 49ers Daily believes that the 49ers will end up releasing Samuel. But if there is a trader partner, Sanchez estimates the 49ers would get a fifth-round pick at best:
“Whichever team gets him has to be able to fit him in gadget roles like the Broncos, Ravens, and Chargers. That’s assuming these teams want him or want him enough to acquire him in a trade.
If it does get that far, figuring out Samuel’s draft capital is the next challenge, and it’s probably not going to be appealing. By my estimate, Samuel won’t be more than a fifth round, and that’s being generous. If the 49ers can find a trade partner, they will have to eat $31.55 million in dead money if they pull the trigger on a trade.”
Deebo Samuel requested a trade from the 49ers in the 2022 offseason, and it was widely reported that a possible return would have included a first-round pick. But at the time, Samuel was coming off a career year in which he tallied 1,405 receiving yards and 1,170 total yards of offense.
The best trade offer the #49ers reportely have gotten for Deebo Samuel is a 5th-round pick. https://t.co/qrzZSzcRSV

Samuel has missed multiple games in each of the last three seasons. He hasn’t hit 900 yards receiving during that period and caught only 51 passes for 670 yards and three touchdowns in 2024.

Samuel’s role has reduced on a star-studded 49ers offense featuring Christian McCaffrey, Jordan Mason, George Kittle, Brandon Aiyuk, breakout star Jauan Jennings and 2024 first-round pick Ricky Pearsall.
The 49ers have too many weapons on offense, and a healthy Samuel could re-emerge as a No. 1 receiver on the right team. With Super Bowl contenders like the Buffalo Bills, Green Bay Packers, Baltimore Ravens and Kansas City Chiefs needing receiving help, Samuel should have plenty of interest in the trade or free agent markets.
